Answer:

Bottom-up processing

Explanation:

Contrary to the top-down processing, the botttom-up does not require a meaning application when receiving certain information: it is understood by the person just by receiving the pure sensation through the senses.

In certain currents of psychology there´s the beleive that all cognitive learning can be explain by two possible ways: the bottom-up and the top-down processing´s. The first one, we can say, is the most "primitive one" since all it need is a sensation to "understand what is going on", while, on the other hand, the top down processing is a little more complicate, since it need´s the pure sensation and an extra meaning application from the user.

The best way to understand this is by an example:

  • Bottom-up: Esther´s example is perfect; although she doesn´t know what´s in the new dish, by the sensation of it in her mouth and stomach, she knows she doesn´t like it. There´s no extra information needed to understand something.
  • Top-down: *see the image in the file*... By simply looking at it you are not sure what it is: Is it a 13 or a B? you can only know by looking it in a context or by applying the meaning by yourself. Extra information is needed to fully understand something.
