The possible dilemma lies between treating all the people on the lifeboat equally or throwing one of them overboard in order to promote the greater good for the greatest number of people on the boat.  Thus, on one hand, we can establish what is moral through the utility principle, and, on the other, we can use the equal treatment principle.
