The colonists settled in Jamestown, Virginia because they thought that it might have gold and silver. Also, they moved here because of it's abundant resources. The main crop of this was tobacco. They were the center of the tobacco industry. Furthermore, Jamestown was conveniently located next to the ocean, so supply ships could easily access Jamestown and tobacco exports could be easily made.
