Sugar Act

The first of a series of acts (taxes) imposed by British Parliament. The Sugar Act raised taxes on sugar (molasses), and required all of the colonies' taxes be sent to the Crown.

2. May 15, 1765.

Quartering act

Required colonies to shelter (quarter) British soldiers in public building or private houses when the army was away from its barracks.

3. March 22, 1765

Stamp Act

The British Parliament put in a place a tax (levy) on all materials printed for commercial and legal use in the colonies, from newspapers and pamphlets to playing cards and dice.

4. June 29, 1767

The Indemnity Act

These acts placed  taxes on many items colonists could only legally buy from England (for example: glass, lead, tea and paper).
