It is the process of rotation of planets in such a way, that the axis and orbit on which they rotate become synchronous. Because of this synchronous rotation of the Earth and Moon, The Earth faces the same side of the moon always.

Therefore, the claim in the story that "the dark side of the Moon, which is never in sunlight" is scientifically wrong. As the Dark Side of the Moon is the area which can not be seen from Earth. It does not means it is dark or sunlight never reached there.
