Explanation:
Ascribed Status is the status which person gets by birth, by chance, by luck/ coincidence. They are not a result of the individual's personality traits, skill level, competence, efforts, abilities, accomplishments/ achievements.
Example :
- Studying a professional degree (eg - law) & getting status of a 'lawyer' is a status attained by developing knowledge, competence in the concerned field i.e Law. This is not an ascribed status
- But, status attained by being borne into a particular religion (hindu/ muslim) , caste (brahmin/ shudra), socio economic group - is not gained by developing any personality traits, skill level, competence, efforts, abilities etc. This is an ascribed status.
