CHARACTERS:
WALPOLE
GIRL
Stage Set: Girl is selling flowers. She is happy and smiling. Walpole watches her for a few seconds.
WALPOLE: (walking up to the flower stand) Do you know a Walpole?
GIRL: No, but I heard he was moving into this town, our town-Red Town! Roses for your darling?
WALPOLE: Do you grow these yourself?
GIRL: Nobody ever asks me that! No, my mother does. How could I? I cannot see.
WALPOLE: Oh, but I couldn't tell at all. Your eyes are very pretty
GIRL: That is kind of you. (feeling the red roses with her fingers) So, would you like these red ones?
WALPOLE: Maybe. Are you from this town?
GIRL: Why, I grew up here. I know just about everyone. You know nobody passes by this street without buying a rose from
me.
WALPOLE: I didn't say I was not going to buy one, sweetheart. So, did your parents grow up here, too?
GIRL: Boy, you would like to know a lot about me, wouldn't you?
WALPOLE: I just think you seem very sweet. So, what do you know about this Walpole guy?
GIRL: Well, they say ... (whispering) they say he is odd. People in this town are scared of him, and he is not even here.
WALPOLE: Oh really?
GIRL: The house he picked was abandoned for decades. There is something creepy about him for sure.
