Assume that you want to construct a voltaic cell that uses the following half reactions:
A2+(aq)+2e−→A(s)E∘red=−0.14VB2+(aq)+2e−→B(s)E∘red=−1.18V
You begin with the incomplete cell pictured below, in which the electrodes are immersed in water.

What additions must you make to the cell for it to generate a standard emf?

a. We should add enough salt containing A2+ into the glass containing the electrode A(s) to produce a 1 M A2+ solution..
b. We should add the salt brige.
c. We should add enough salt containing B2+ into the glass containing the electrode B(s) to produce a 1 M B2+ solution.
d. We should apply the initial emf to the electrodes.
e. We should add enough salt containing A2+ into the glass containing the electrode B(s) to produce a 1 M A2+ solution..
f. We should add enough salt containing B2+ into the glass containing the electrode A(s) to produce a 1 M B2+ solution.

Respuesta :

I think it’s A cause they should add enough

An electrochemical cell produces current by chemical reactions.

Electrochemical cells

An electrochemical cell produces current by chemical reactions. This question is incomplete hence I will discuss the overall structure of an elecrochemical cell.

An electrochemical cell must have an anode and a cathode. The cell may also have  a voltmeter. Usually, a salt bridge is used to prevent the both solutions in the two half cells  from mixing up.
