Solving
an equation means finding a value of a variable that make the equation true.
This value is called the solution of the equation. A mathematical equation is
just like a balanced equation. Both sides of the equation should be equal at
all times. Whatever we do to one side, has to be done on the opposite side.
[tex]8x - 4y = -12[/tex]
[tex]4(2x-y)=-12
[/tex] [tex]Factor \ out \ the \ common \ term \ 4[/tex]
[tex]2x-y=- \dfrac{12}{4} [/tex] [tex]Divide \ both \ sides \ by \ 4[/tex]
[tex]2x-y=-3
[/tex]
[tex]-y=-3-2x[/tex] [tex]Subtract \ 2x \ from \ both \ sides[/tex]
[tex]y=3+2x[/tex] [tex]Multiply \ both \ sides \ by \ -1[/tex]
