All living things are made up of atleast one cell. Cells are the building blocks of life that carry out the functions that keep organisms alive. Cells can only be seen with a microscope. The most common microscope found in classrooms today is the simple microscope. Robert Hooke was the first person to actually discover cells in 1665. He built a simple microscope and looked at dead, thin slices of cork. He thought these compartment-like boxes looked like small jail cells. This discovery led to many new discoveries. One of which stated, all cells develop from preexisting cells. This was concluded by scientist, Rudolf Virchow.
