During the war in Vietnam, the United States military re-instituted the draft. Instead of military enlisted and officers in WW2 being voluntary and derived from the same geographic location, draftees from a single platoon could potentially be from every state, and as a percentage, a higher percentage of enlisted personnel was a) of lower socioeconomic status, b) higher by minority status, and c) higher U.S. national origin.
