According to the DSM, Wilma is suffering from major depressive disorder. Some of the symptoms that exemplify this disorder include having trouble finding the motivation throughout the day, losing interest in many of the activities she once enjoyed, and feeling sad for no reason. She does not feel like leaving the house because it seems like it is too much trouble. According to the cognitive theory, depressed people think differently from normal people and they tend to view the world pessimistically. A therapist using a cognitive approach would help Wilma think more positively.
