I think that the main cause of world war ll was The Treaty of Versailles and the German desire for revenge.

Germany slowly yet steadily broke the Treaty of Versailles, singed after World War 1 in Versailles. What initiated World War 2 was when Germany invaded Poland, and got closer to France. France and Britain signed a deal that if Germany got close enough to France then Britain and France would announce War with Germany.
