It is important to identify the content, intent, values, and point of view of editorials because, in order to understand the purpose of the editorial to must know the intent and point of view. Also identifying the content as to whether it is factual or not. There a values within an editorial that lead to a deeper meaning.

Like for example, Thomas Nast's 1869 "Uncle Sam's Thanksgiving Dinner" cartoon that argues that everyone should have the right to vote - published at a time when African Americans, Native Americans, and women could not. Nast constructs a powerful appeal using few words and an emotionally-charged image. The intent was to make an appeal for all to vote. The content was based on a fact, this happened. The value is how during this time people was treated different based on their skin color or gender. And the point of view was written from one that wanted a change.
