Answer: Kim's experiences are small but important in how he views himself. At first when he was younger, little things made him feel different and isolated. He began to learn that he was not like others and his Korean identity was foriegn. In one of the first paragraphs he immediately feels different because of his clothing, a vest. But as he gets older he understands how he should accept his identity. When he gets to college in New York he becomes proud of his identity and embraces it, he notices how people are actually interested in his culture.
