At the time, the base of the economy was the agricolture. Thus, most of the people were farmers in almost any culture, aztecs included. Methods of farming were not rationalized but done by tradition, so the outcome was not great and subject to every fluctuation of the climate. The amount of resources used by each civilations was not different.
