The effects of coral reef destruction cause an increase in mangrove forests on the coast. Sea level rise affects the coral reefs and tidal marshes and swamps, but Caribbean forests are not affected. Marine life in the coral reefs is declining while animals in the Caribbean forests are only minimally affected. Sea level rise is altering coral reefs and causing forests in the Caribbean to retreat from the coastlines.
