i’m guessing turkey??

The turkey that the Pilgrims most likely encountered and ate is the Eastern wild turkey.

When the Pilgrims had their Thanksgiving feast, it was said that the governor sent men to go hunt turkey which means that it was wild turkey.

The Eastern wild turkey:

  • Has its habitat as the eastern part of the United States
  • Numbers in the millions
  • Is the most hunted turkey species

Because it's habitat is located in the eastern part of the United States which is where the Pilgrims landed, historians agree that this turkey was most likely the first one seen and eaten by the Pilgrims.

We can therefore conclude that the Eastern wild turkey is most likely used by the Pilgrims for the first Thanksgiving.
