Socialization is the term for how we come to internalize social norms that are prevalent in society. Both learning and teaching are entailed in socialization and is a process that begins very early in childhood as we are taught language by our parents and taught behavioral roles ascribed to our gender, for example.  School is another important source of socialization where we begin to interact with peers from our age group and also learn from the teachers and staff regarding appropriate behaviors in school.

There are also skills and tasks we are taught to prepare us for adult life and the workforce like respecting authority and learning to follow a schedule. All of these can be considered examples of socialization and how we learn the cultural norms in society, if we were not socialized we would not know what norms to follow and we might do something to trespass accepted behavior from speaking something unacceptable for example or exhibiting anti-social behaviors.
