What is mitosis and its stages?
Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase are the four stages of mitosis.
1) Prophase: chromatin forms chromosomes, the nuclear envelope breaks down, and chromosomal centromeres bind to spindle fibers.
2) Metaphase: the chromosomes align on the metaphase plate (center of the cell)
3) Anaphase: sister chromatids are drawn to opposing poles of the cell;
4) Telophase: nuclear envelope recovers, chromosomes unroll into chromatin, and cytokinesis can begin.
