Answer: The roles of the elders often involve responsibilities that require specialized knowledge, skills or the wisdom that is acquired with experience. Sometimes the elder can mentor a younger person to assume the responsibility. But a younger person may not have the interest, the aptitude, or willingness to learn. Elders often have leadership roles in a community which will require them to listen, communicate, settle disputes, or offer guidance to solve problems. They must be able to earn the respect of the community.
People have different intelligence, talents and interests. Some are capable and willing to fulfill roles as teachers, healers, protectors and leaders. Others should just be content to follow, contribute as they are able, and respect their elders.
Not everyone is able to fill the roles of elders because many of these roles require knowledge and experience.
Both older people and older characters have responsibilities related to the experiences they have had in life. These experiences promote the skills necessary for elders to fulfill their roles in different branches of society.
These experiences take place as follows:
- Through personal moments.
- Through the qualification promoted by some type of activity.
- Through different works.
- Through studies.
As people go through different experiences throughout their lives, we can conclude that people are capacities with different abilities, to fulfill different roles and therefore cannot fulfill each other's roles. Especially in relation to elders , who have gone through many different experiences throughout their lives.
