Naomi has 50 red beads and white beads. The number of red beads is 1 more than 6 times the number of white beads. How many red beads does Naomi have?

She has 43 red beads :)
Let w = white beads. Solve for w and then find the number of red beads. 

w + 6w + 1 = 50 

7w = 50 - 1 

7w = 49 

w = 49 / 7 

w = 7 

She has 7 white beads. 

7 * 6 = 42 red beads 

Check: 

7 + 1 + 42 = 50 So... the real answer is 42...
