The geography mattered a lot because it varied by the state they lived in. If they were from the lower areas they probably wanted to plant. Northerner areas wanted to fish or to collect lumber. Most of the colonies had different religions also. Some were founded for the whole purpose to separate from the church back in Britain (Separatists and Pilgrims). The government... well... they all kind of followed the same in a way but they also changed it in a couple of ways. It wouldn't be until later that states would be able to have a say and decide if they wanted to declare something unconstitutional or something.
