the expression without parenthesis would be 7/12p-1 because you have to distribute the negative sing to both terms in the parenthesis which are 1 and -1/3p so they would turn into -1 and 1/3p then you add 1/4p to 1/3p by making the denominators the same. 3x4=12 and 1/3=4/12 and 1/4=3/12. Now add 4/12+3/12 and you get 7/12. Since 7/12 has a variable next to it, you can’t had the -1 so you just leave it like 7/12p-1
