Sam wants to enlarge a triangle with sides 3, 6 and 8 inch sides. If the shortest side of the new triangle is 5.4 inches, what is the perimeter of the enlarged triangle?

Answer:sides of triangle = 3,6,8

sides of enlarged triangle = 5.4, x.y

3/ 5.4 = 6/x = 8/y

3/ 5.4 = 6/x

3x =5.4*6

3x =32.4

x = 10.8

3/5.4 = 8/y

3y =8 * 5.4

3y = 43.2  

y = 14.4

perimeter = 5.4 +10.8 +14.4 =30.6 inches
