What do you think causes Sykes to behave the way he does? Based on your understanding of his character and motivations, does he deserve what he gets at the end? Why or why not?
I accept that he had poor encounters with women when Sykes was growing up. If this is really the case, his harsh abuse of Delia can be seen as a kind of twisted act of revenge against his mother, sister, or other female relatives.
