Maggie’s Journal: Thursday, October 15th 1I can’t believe this. 2Today at the afternoon assembly, Principal Weinstein announced that they’re switching Barry Junior High to a year-round school schedule starting next year! This edict is going to ruin everything. I am so angry, it’s like I can’t even see straight. 3I don’t want to go to school every day of the year! What about summer vacation? Summer vacation is a tradition. It’s been around practically since school was invented. The principal, school board, and state authorities are taking away our freedom. They want to work us to death and not let us have any fun, ever. Don’t they get it? We’re kids! Summertime is for going to the beach and hanging out with friends, not for doing homework assignments and taking tests. Well, I’m not going to do algebra while I’m putting on suntan lotion, that’s for sure. They’d rather have us work all the time, obviously. We’ll be going to school twice as much as we do now. 4Here’s the other reason I’m furious: I was going to get a summer job next year. Tavin’s sister told me that she could get me a position at Extreme Smoothie, and I could make at least $6 an hour. After three months of work, do you know how much money that would be? A lot. If Principal Weinstein switches us to a year-round schedule, I can’t ever have a summer job. 5Mom’s freaking out because I haven’t cleaned my room, so I have to go. The only thing I have left to say is this: I am NOT going to go to school 365 days a year. No way. I’ll move to another school district if I have to, and I don’t care if I have to take a bus an hour each way to get to class.
