The reason why society and the media focus on street crimes rather than white-collar crime given the financial costs of the latter because news about violence catch more attention and therefore, it sells more. The attention of people is focused on street crimes rather than white-collar crime because people want to know what kind of violent acts they and their families are exposed in day to day. In addition, news about violence in the streets, drugs, alcohol, ect. catches the attention of viewers. The media and news channels want to be the first to discuss the topic because all the attention goes onto them; exposing them and bringing in profit. Furthermore, white-collar crime is usually hidden out of society’s range because of influence and money.
