If 5.7 moles of zinc metal react with 8.9 moles of silver nitrate, how many moles of silver metal can be formed, and how many moles of the excess reactant will be left over when the reaction is complete? Unbalanced equation: Zn + AgNO3 → Zn(NO3)2 + Ag Be sure to show all of your work.

Respuesta :

the balanced equation is

Zn + 2 AgNO3 = Zn(NO3)2 + 2 Ag

the ratio between Zn and AgNO3 is 1 : 2

moles AgNO3 required = 5.7 x 2 =11.4

we have only 8.9 moles of AgNO3 so it is the limiting reactant

moles Zn needed = 8.9/2=4.45

moles Zn in excess = 5.7 - 4.45 =1.25 ( or 1.3 at two significant figures)
