Women's main role in society in the 1950s was to take care of the family. Women were expected to be caring mothers, hard-working homemakers, and obedient wives. "Modern mothers", as they were called, couldn't have friends, jobs, or anything that would distract them from their duties from the house and family. There were also many gender roles, Traditional gendered roles view the man as a “pro-creator, a protector, and a provider,” and the woman as “pretty and polite but not too aggressive, not too outspoken and not too smart.” Media aids in society conforming to these traditional gendered views.
