Many people believe NASA represents American innovation and drive for knowledge, while others
consider it a waste of taxpayer dollars in a time of deepening economic debt.

Although some believe NASA is a luxury the United States cannot afford, in fact, the U.S. government
must continue to fund NASA a symbol of American innovation and thirst for knowledge.

The issue of continuing funding for space exploration evokes different feelings in people.


Why is the "best" thesis the best of the three?

In view of the thesis statements presented above, we can see that the second thesis statement is the best among them, because it presents an opinion of the author about the text, while pointing out the main subject of the text.

The first thesis statement is the one that presents a specific language, since we can see terms like "taxpayer" and "economic debt" that are terms specific to a subject.

The third thesis statement is the weakest among them, as it needs to present more information, but this is the thesis statement that presents a main idea, simply and directly.

The thesis statement is a very important part of a text, because through it, we can see:

  • The main subject of the text, in a summarized and punctual way.
  • The direction of the text in relation to the subject covered.
  • The author's opinion and position in relation to the subject discussed.
