Respuesta :

Slavery was developed in North America because black enslaved people were more" practical" to use than the other sources of labor.

Before white Europeans turned to African enslaved people, they relied on labor from:

  • Native American enslaved people, and,
  • Indentured servants

They stopped using Native Americans however because they had high death rates from diseases.

They also stopped using indentured servants as they feared that these servants would one day rebel and because they were white as well, the rebellion might be costly.

They therefore turned to African enslaved people who were:

  • stronger
  • had more immunity to diseases
  • were "cheaper"

In conclusion, a significant number of historians believe that Africans came to be used as slave labor because it was the most "practical" way at the time.
