Night was a 1960 book written by Elie Wiesel, detailing his horrific experiences during the Holocaust at the hands of the Nazis.

  • The memories surrounding the death of his family and his loss of innocence as a child numbed his senses with indifference.  This was why he became very passive and did not care how events turned out again.

  • Time and again, people have continued to repeat the evils of the Holocaust in one way or the other.  The UN seems incapacitated to initiate actions to ensure peoples' rights.

  • It seems that blood must be shed to the level of the Holocaust before people's right to liberty can be guaranteed.  There are oppressive governments everywhere.  They remain unaccountable.

Thus, Wiesel bemoaned the evils of the Holocaust because of "the darkness of life, mind, and soul" that it created in him, warning everyone to recognize that evils are still rampant in our world today.
