Chromosome's structure is rod - shaped , composed of a long thin molecule of DNA with many proteins attached to it , proteins can be histone or non histone , histone proteins maintain the shape of chromosomes and aid in thight packing of DNA , non histone proteins control activities of specific regions of DNA . They're also located inside cell membrane in eukaryotic cells .

Centromere is a structure holds two chromatids together .

Chromatids are identical halves of chromosomes .

Between cell divisions chromosomes are less tightly coiled they're called chromotins .
