In Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Raven", the bird Raven symbolizes death and evil happenings.

At the end of the poem, the speaker describes the bird:

Like a demon

In the poem, the speaker is seen mourning over the love that he has already lost. A raven visits the speaker who continuously cried about the lost love. The raven kept repeating the word "nevermore" again and again. This made the speaker mad and angry towards the raven.  In the beginning of the poem, the speaker assumes the raven to be his friend who had appeared in his life to share his grief. It is towards the end that the speaker understands that the raven was not his friend but the demon who had arrived only with bad news.
