But in her “Commencement Address at Wellesley College,” Adichie uses many anecdotes to show the effectiveness of the use of rhetorical devices.

Anecdotes are short and fascinating short stories. For example, Adichie tells the story of how her discovery of lipsticks. Based on this story, she urges her listeners to apply lipsticks whenever they like to brighten their dark days.

In another anecdote, Adichie tells about her mother's fight to become the first female chair of a University in her hometown. With this anecdote, she persuades her listeners to make efforts. Because she tried, she ran away from studying Medicine to the chagrin of some people.
