In "The Selection", by Kiera Cass, how does America first feel about Maxon? Do her feelings for him change by the end of the book? Would this count as her characterization?

ANy who she think maxon is shallow stuck up type of person but the more and more she knows him her feelings start to change. im not sure i guess it would be characterization.
