This is an example of a perfectly inelastic collection, so:

mb = mass of bullet

vb = velocity of bullet

mw = mass of watermelon

v = velocity final

mbvb = (mb + mw)v

Rearrange to solve for the velocity of the bullet:

vb = (mb + mw)v/mb

Plug in values:

vb = (0.038 + 3.2)(3.82)/(0.038) = 325.504 m/s
