Pick any number. If that number is even, divide it by 2. If it's odd, multiply it by 3 and add 1. Now repeat the process with your new number. If you keep going, you'll eventually end up at 1. Every time.
If you pick 3, you end up with 1 after getting to 10 then 5 then 16 then 8 then 4 then 2 then 1. If you pick 14, you get 7 then 22 then 11 then 34 then 17 then 52 then 26 then 13 then 40 then 20 then 10 then 5 then 16 then 8 then 4 then 2 then 1.
