Before the 17th amendment, senators were selected by state legislatures. Senators play a big role in states. They take action on bills, resolutions, amendments, motions, nominations, and treaties by voting. The 17th amendment allowed voters of each state to be able to directly elect their senators. This amendment gives more power to the citizens of each state by allowing them to have a say in big decisions, like making the choice of who’s the best fit to help lead their country.
