rust results from iron’s reaction to oxygen. an iron nail gains mass when it rusts. how does this reaction support the law of conservation of mass?

I’m going to assume because the iron and the oxygen atoms form a compound which has a higher weight then just iron so the nails weight increases.

So no new mass is created or destroyed it’s simply added to the nail from the airs oxygen.
