"Utang na loob" is a Philipino word which refers to a sense of obligation by
individuals to return a favor or good deed.
It can however breed corruption as a result of positions being filled by these
individuals who aren't perfectly suited for the job . They don't usually perform
or have the necessary requirements.
Another angle is office holders stealing or committing other offences in order
to ensure those who helped them are paid back. This breeds corruption in
the government and should be frowned at.
