pounds of jelly beans, the total cost is $47. Find the cost for each pound of trail mix and each pound of jelly beans.
Cost for each pound of trail mix: s]
x 5 ?

Respuesta :

so we can first write 2 equations using the info provided

5t + 3j = 23

2t + 12j = 47

now I'm going to take the first equation and write it in terms of t

5t = 23 - 3j

t = ( 23 - 3j ) / 5

now we can plug the value of t into the second equation

( ( 23 - 3j ) / 2.5 ) + 12j = 47

9.2 - 1.2j + 12j = 47

10.8j = 37.8

108j = 378

j = 378 / 108

j = 3.5

now that we know the value of j we can plug it back in to either equation to receive the value of t, I'm going to choose the first one,

5t + 10.5 = 23

5t = 23 - 10.5

5t = 12.5

t = 12.5 / 5

t = 2.5

so a pound of trail mix is $2.50 and a pound of jelly beans is $3.50
