Twice a number, minus a second number is -1. Twice the second number is 9. Find the two numbers.
a) 7 and 15.
b) 1 and 15
c) 3 and 7
d) 1 and 3
e) 3 and 15

The answer is C, 3 and 7.

When we take 3*2, we get 6.   Then, when we take 6-7, we get -1.
