Suppose the velocity of an object moving along a line is positive. are position, displacement, and distance traveled equal? explain.

Respuesta :

position and displacement may be equal as they are the shortest distance traveled !

but distance would be equal if the body moves in straight line but if it travels not in a straight line then total length... is the distance !

Answer:

Position of object is defined as the instantaneous location of object while it is moving along the straight line

So if the object is moving along the line then the position is continuously changing along its path or line

Now in order to find the displacement we can use the definition that change in the position of object along the straight line is known as displacement

So we can say

[tex]displacement = \vec r_2 - \vec r_1[/tex]

Now distance is defined as the total path length while moving and here it is moving along the straight line so the distance here is same as the displacement of the object

so here distance and displacement are equal while position is not equal
