Napoleon's rise to power as meteoric. He was
born in 1769 and studied about the military; he was later to be
commissioned as a French artillery officer and attained heroic status at
the siege of Toulon. [ [ [ He was in the fore front of 1799 Coup
against the directory and was made first Consul and declared himself an
emperor and was coroneted as the King of Italy in 1805.
