[tex]1 \frac{1}{4} [/tex] is twice as big or [tex] \frac{5}{8} [/tex] bigger than [tex] \frac{5}{8} [/tex]

To figure this out, we need to change this mixed number ([tex]1 \frac{1}{4} [/tex]) to have the same denominator as [tex] \frac{5}{8} [/tex]

So, we already know that [tex] \frac{8}{8} [/tex] is equal to 1, so al we have to do is change the [tex] \frac{1}{4} [/tex] to [tex] \frac{?}{8} [/tex]

To find that out we just see how we get from 4 to 8 (multiply by 2), so all we do is multiply the 1 by 2 and we get 2 for our numerator. So, [tex] \frac{1}{4} = \frac{2}{8} [/tex]

Now we add the [tex] \frac{8}{8} [/tex] to the [tex] \frac{2}{8} [/tex] and we get [tex] \frac{10}{8} [/tex] which is [tex] \frac{5}{8} [/tex] bigger or twice as much as [tex] \frac{5}{8} [/tex] since we have to multiply by 2 to get the 5 to a 10 as the numerator.

I hope this helped!! :))
