What are cilia?

Cilia are a special type of hairlike organelles capable of covering the surface of cells in many different organisms.

Cilia are found in different eukaryotic organisms ranging from unicellular protists to mammals (epithelial tissues).

The function of cilia is to produce motion (movement) of the cell in which these structures are found.
