Using the order of operations you'll have to apply PEMDAS (Parentheses Exponents Multiplication Division Addition Subtraction) and in that order.

1/2 (x+2) = 2

1. Since there is nothing to do with the parentheses and there are no exponents you will be starting with multiplication.
Multiply 1/2 by (x+1).
1 (x+1)/2 = 2:

x+1/2 = 2

2. Next you'll have to multiply the denominator of 2 by both sides canceling it out on the left.
2 (x+1)/2 = 2(2):

x+1 = 4

3. Lastly, subtract 1 from both sides canceling it out on the left.
x+1 -1 = 4 -1

x = 3.

Check:

1. Fill in the variable x with 3 and solve inside parentheses.
1/2(3+1) = 2:

1/2 (4) = 2

2. Multiply 4 by 1/2.
4(1/2) = 2
4/2 = 2:

2=2
