William Tecumseh Sherman ( 1820 - 1891 ) was American Civil war general. He led Union forces in crushing campaigns through the South. In 1864 Sherman was leading his troops on the so-called "March to the Sea" from Atlanta to Savannah on the Atlantic coast.
